From Humble Beginnings
Beginning life as a one-off event at the Lime Bar Café, Folkestone, Hellfire Short Film Festival has grown into an internationally acclaimed event.
A regular customer at Lime Bar Café had booked to screen a film one evening. At the eleventh hour after reviewing the film the proprietors realised the film was not suitable for public showing so cancelled the event. Gary Ingoldby-Spate, festival director, stepped in with hours to spare to put on an alternative event showcasing the very best comedy short films. The event was a great success and that evening the Hellfire Short Film Festival was born.
Since that fateful in evening we have received over 3,300 submissions from 143 countries. 163 short films have been screened and 16 finalists were selected by the audiences with five films collecting awards.
